AJ is originally from Tuscaloosa and received their B.S. in Psychology from the University of Alabama. They currently reside in Decatur and spend their free time hiking with their pup, Padme. During undergrad, they traveled to Sri Lanka to live with a host family for several weeks and do volunteer work in various mental health facilities. They also spent time teaching English and working in the local community outreach program while they were there. During this time, AJ also spent their off days traveling throughout the country; hiking mountains to watch the sunrise, visiting sea turtle sanctuaries, and practicing yoga and meditation with a monk at a Buddhist temple.

After graduating from UA, AJ took a gap year from college and moved to California to figure out which type of therapy work they wanted to pursue. They worked for a bit doing therapy with children on the Autism spectrum. Although they loved working with the kids, they felt that they needed to expand their knowledge and potential clientele. From there, they decided to pursue their Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy, with a specialization in LGBTQ+ issues. As someone who grew up queer in the South, AJ has overcome various obstacles surrounding their identity in both familial and social contexts. Through working as a student intern under the supervision of Rachel Sullivan, LMFT, AAMFT Approved Supervisor #150916, they hope to aid others who are facing similar struggles through offering support, resources, and advocacy.

Areas of Interest: Neurodiversity, LGBTQ+, Identity Issues, Relationship Issues
