Imagine a life where you’re able to go out to eat with a friend and not spend the entire night worrying about the food; a life where food enhances your relationships rather than stands in the way; a life where you can truly enjoy yourself without being trapped by the deceptive thoughts of an eating disorder. Sounds like a dream, right? For many struggling with an eating disorder, this dream can become a reality through mental health therapy.

Eating disorders are tough, and can be a complex web of emotions, relationships, and self esteem concerns that actually have nothing at all to do with food.

As an MFT, I understand that there isn’t just one answer and that recovery looks different for everyone. Through therapy with me, we can explore the systems in your life that paved the way for the eating disorder (i.e. diet culture), who or what is continuing to feed the eating disorder (no pun intended), and what life would be like outside of the eating disorder. We’ll build on skills that strengthen you against the eating disorder.

Eating Disorder Recovery is very unique. Unlike recovery from a substance abuse disorder, people struggling with eating disorders can’t just avoid the substances of choice. Food is literally necessary for survival and therefore I know that there will be everyday situations that can be triggering. I take extra care to make sure we go at a pace that feels do-able for you in creating a new relationship with food.

I also find it valuable to connect you to resources like eating disorder specific dietitians who can support you in an “All Foods Fit” lifestyle.

Eating Disorders can be exhausting and they can strip the joy from everyday life. If you’re ready to live a life free of bargaining, where your voice is louder than the eating disorders, contact me and we’ll get started!
